The Faculty provides a base for a number of research centres and institutes: these facilitate in-depth and interdisciplinary research through collaboration between experts within MAPS, and in related areas such as Engineering Sciences and Life Sciences. These include:

- Institute for Materials Discovery
- The Thomas Young Centre
This role is working within the Professional Services Team in the Department of Mathematics, which sits within the MAPS Faculty. The department has internationally recognised research groups in pure and applied analysis; fluid mechanics; mathematical physics; geometry and topology; algebra, number theory and combinatorics; mathematical modelling in biology, finance, industry and society.
Main purpose of the job
The Operations Administrator will work alongside colleagues to provide professional services to the Department. The professional services team are responsible for the day to day running of the department, including Finance, HR, research and education support, events and space planning.
About you
The successful candidate will be educated to A level standard, or equivalent, or having acquired equivalent vocational/commercial knowledge and experience of working in this area. They will have experience of providing administrative support in a busy office environment, knowledge of financial processes and regulations associated with general financial administration, and proven experience of providing effective financial support, including the experience of online financial systems such as UCL’s MyFinance System, and experience of providing financial reporting. They will have the proven ability of overseeing event management, and knowledge of GDPR requirements. They will have an excellent level of literacy and oral and written communication skills and an advanced skill level using Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. They will have a high level of numeracy, with the ability to understand and interpret figures and statistics, and undertake standard calculations such as VAT.
The successful candidate will also have proven experience of working as a creative and proactive member of a team, and proven consistent ability to meet tight deadlines, and to manage one’s own workload with effective prioritisation, organisation and time management skills.
An outstanding candidate will have experience of working in a HEI, or similarly complex organisation. They will have experience of using records management systems within an institution, and experience of servicing meetings, including planning, liaising with chair to create agenda, taking and producing minutes, and managing committee papers.
