Base pay range

We are searching for a high-calibre Group Finance Director to lead the finance function, drive transformation, and optimise financial performance of a large complex international business with turnover of £1.5bn.

The Role:

This is a strategic and hands-on leadership role, reporting directly to the CEO, with responsibility for the entire finance function approx. 40 pax and 5 direct reports.

You will oversee financial operations, compliance, and transformation, ensuring strong financial governance and commercial decision-making in a complex, asset-heavy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership:

  1. Partner with the CEO and leadership team to shape financial strategy and drive business performance.
  2. Provide insights into key financial metrics, CAPEX/OPEX planning, and profitability analysis.
  3. Develop financial KPIs and dashboards to monitor performance and identify risks.

Financial Operations & Reporting:

  1. Oversee financial control, planning, reporting, tax, and VAT across a team of 40.
  2. Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and statutory accounts.
  3. Implement and maintain strong financial controls, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
  4. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support long-term decision-making.

Transformation & Change Management:

  1. Drive finance transformation and process improvements, ensuring efficiency and scalability.
  2. Work with IT and operational teams to implement new financial systems and automation tools.
  3. Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimise financial processes.

Leadership & Team Development:

  1. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  2. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and business partnership.
  3. Ensure succession planning and team development for long-term stability.

Who We’re Looking For:

  1. Exceptional academic background (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA preferred).
  2. Proven experience as an FD / CFO in a +/-£1bn turnover business.
  3. Background in heavy industry, with large complex asset base
  4. Strong technical finance expertise across financial control, reporting, tax, and compliance.
  5. Experience managing CAPEX/OPEX in asset-heavy industries.
  6. A commercially astute leader, able to influence at board level and drive performance.
  7. Track record of leading transformation and finance process optimisation.
  8. Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with experience leading large finance teams.
